AN INTRODUCTION AND LINKS TO MY BOOK "A POTTERS GEOLOGY"I've at long last decided to replace that practically antique web page of Mediterranean wildflowers with this one based on alpines of the southern slopes of the Alps. Almost all the photos were taken at 1000m or more, here, or in neighbouring communes. It has still a long way to go to be anywhere near complete. Also, to get a reasonable download time, I've had to cut picture size down somewhat, but I think you'll find the quality much improved on earlier efforts.This is part of a more ambitious scheme that's nowhere near complete either, but already some work has been done on:
villages - their history and pre-history;
geology, fossils;
birds,trees...
I only lack, as usual, time and space--mainly space, if anyone has some to offer???.The flowers are not now in their proper botanical order, but through a clickable index page of scientific names arranged alphabetically. I've also included French and English names where known. I hope you find it usable--otherwise please let me know
Valderoure (which you see in the title--meaning valley of oaks) is the name of the commune where I live and is a long, fertile, mountain valley where they grow hay, vegetables, oats etc., and raise sheep and cattle. I frequently see roedeer and signs of wild boar in the pine-woods of the rocky slopes. There are many red (to nearly black) squirrels. We have two species of eagle, golden and short-toed; two buzzards, common and honey; four woodpeckers, green, black, great and lesser spotted, crossbills, crested tits, etcetera, etcetera.
